The renowned lawyer and author Vincent Bugliosi’s latest book is called The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder. Bugliosi is considered to be one of the best prosecutors in this country. In his career at the LA County District Attorney’s office, he successfully prosecuted 105 of 106 felony jury trials, including twenty-one murder convictions without a single loss. Alan Dershowitz calls him “as good a prosecutor as there ever was,” and the legendary F. Lee Bailey calls him “the quintessential prosecutor.” His most famous trial, the Charles Manson case, became the basis of his classic book, Helter Skelter, the biggest selling true-crime book in publishing history.

All the sales rhetoric we’re bombarded with today is sickening, but in the case of Eye-Q the claims are true. I never purchase this kind of thing…I don’t have the money. But one day a few years ago I heard an ad on the radio and within 10 minutes I was on the phone paying, yes, $250! But that was the best $250 I have spent on any kind of product in many, many years. The USS Enterprise responds to the SS Tsiolkovsky, which has been monitoring the collapse of a supergiant star. The final message from the ship is outrageous laughter that is abruptly cut off by an explosion—later identified as a hatch being opened to vacuum. An away team beams over to find the crew frozen to death and in various stages of undress—what Data describes as evidence of a “wild party”.
Later, it is that discovered a similar medical condition was mentioned in the logs of the old USS Enterprise commanded by Captain Kirk where the crew suffered impaired judgment and wild behavior………
The crew finds six dead scientists at a station. The circumstances of their deaths are not apparent; however, the life support systems had been found shut down and all control systems frozen solid.
One of the Enterprise crewmen carelessly removes his gloves and is contaminated by a strange red liquid. Later the man notices a strange itch and begins to act irrationally. He threatens Lt. Sulu with a knife, then attempts to turn it on himself. He is escorted to the sickbay where he later dies. Dr. McCoy is left bewildered, especially since the wounds were not that serious… Soon a bizarre affliction begins to affect other crew members and quickly spreads through the ship. They each begin to display both comical and horrific exaggerations of character. McCoy finds nothing like it in Starfleet records……….
The Independent of London reports the United States is holding hostage some $50 billion of Iraq’s money in the Federal Reserve Bank of New York to pressure the Iraqi government into signing an agreement to prolong the US occupation indefinitely. Patrick Cockburn reports the Federal Reserve continues to hold Iraq’s financial reserves as a legacy of the international sanctions against Saddam Hussein. US negotiators are threatening to remove tens of billions of dollars of Iraq’s money to settle outstanding court judgments dating back to the 1980s unless Iraq accepts the highly controversial military deal. The deal would allow the US to permanently keep more than fifty military bases in Iraq. American forces would also be able to continue to carry out arrests of Iraqi citizens and conduct military campaigns without consultation with the Iraqi government. American soldiers and contractors will enjoy legal immunity.
Oprah Winfrey discusses with Eckhart Tolle his new book “A New Earth: Awakening to your life’s purpose.” I know, I know…Oprah… well Eckhart is great, and there’s no cost to view the sessions. I’ve watched one, and it’s likely that these are dumbed down compared to the content of the book.
Eckhart Tolle suffered greatly–he had bouts of depression and suicidal thoughts. Then, one night, he woke up, thinking he couldn’t live with himself any longer. He then realized that he must be two selves: The “I” and the “self” he couldn’t live with. This was an utter shock to him. Suddenly his mind stopped, but:
“I was fully conscious. … drawn into what seemed like a vortex of energy… my body started to shake… I heard the words “resist nothing” as if spoken from inside by chest… [I was being] sucked into a void… Suddeny, there was no more fear, and I let myself fall into that void. I have no recollection of what happened after that.” For the next five months he lived in an uninterrupted state of pure bliss. After that, he was separated from everything. No relationships, job, or home. “I spent almost two years sitting on park benches in a state of the most intense joy.” (From “The Power of Now” pp. 4-5)
Once he got on his feet again, people came in droves because they wanted what he had. He simply told them they already had it, and he couldn’t really help them. He wrote “The Power of Now” in an attempt to help people get it.
I was very impressed by Eckhart Tolle’s book“The Power of Now.”The message is that most people are asleep in that they spend most of their time thinking about the past and/or the future, and that this both causes great suffering, and robs the present moment of it’s power. This then results in failed relationships, things not getting done or getting done wrong, and perpetuation of the “drama” and “problems” of our lives. Further, our Egoic mind needs these dramas and problems because our egoic mind has forged a “self” that is built around these problems, and we think those problems are our true self, so letting all the drama and problems go in the Now is something the egoic mind does NOT want to do. If that were to happen, our “Self” would be lost. But in order to be psychologically healthy (even enlightened), that’s exactly what we have to do…let go Now.
